The Uchi Store is rooted in the meaning of UCHI (うち): the Japanese word for home or interiors. In Japanese culture, many choose to scent their homes and workspaces instead of wearing perfume (which is considered intrusive).
Inspired by this age-old Japanese practice, we use scent as a quiet power to transform everyday experiences into meaningful, intentional moments. Since surroundings have a subconscious effect on your well-being, scented spaces are a medium to create positive shifts in mood.

I CREATED THE UCHI STORE TO
enrich the little moments and infuse your daily life with emotion, memory, and meaning through scent
I’ve been obsessed with scents since I was a child. As a teenager, my first big purchase that I saved up for was a “designer” perfume. Even now, you will find me sniffing lemon trees and wild flowers on holiday.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I found myself in the midst of an unfulfilling career (one that I got two graduate degrees for!) and mulled over the idea of a scent brand that brings forth innovation and a sensory experience in India. After I finally left my career in pharmaceutical research, I spent a year and a half learning the art of fragrance and formulations. Along with my background in chemistry this has culminated in carefully curated fragrance blends.
Lucky for me, India is home to a sublime fragrance industry. Bypassing run-of-the-mill production, we leverage the craftsmanship, natural resources, and vibrancy that is rife in our country. This, coupled with my fascination with the Japanese art of intentional living and engaging in tiny rituals to bring about balance is what Uchi is about. I hope you enjoy your Uchi purchase!

At The Uchi Store, we value collaboration with artisans who share our dedication to detail and simplicity. Our candle jars, crafted by local ceramicists, embody meticulous craftsmanship ensuring every product created by hand is steeped in wabi-sabi. No two pieces will ever be the same.
With special matte glazes created just for us, and custom lid for each jar, your purchase will never be just a candle. Each Uchi product is formulated in-house, handmade in small batches, and made using the finest quality local and natural ingredients.
REPURPOSE YOUR UCHI JARS
While there is no limit on ways to reuse the Uchi candle vessels, we recommend using them as storage jars or the lid and body as two separate products. The jars are microwave-safe and can be used to store kitchen staples, jewelry, coffee pods, keys, vanity products, and much more. The lid can be used as a coaster or paper weight, with the body as a tea/coffee mug, vase, or planter.
